Teddy Swims, the genre-blending singer behind hits that mesh soul, country, and pop into a crooning cocktail, had to suddenly put a cork in his Hawaii performances. The artist was slated for back-to-back nights at the Waikiki Shell, but things went south when he lost his voice mid-concert last Friday. Fans expecting to sway to his vocal stylings were met with disappointment as Swims was forced to abandon the stage.
According to KITV, the singer made his ailment public via an Instagram post, and, in a heart-on-his-sleeve apology, stated, "I hate to disappoint you and truly apologize for letting you down. Thank you for your love, patience and understanding." The news was a blow to his Hawaiian fanbase, especially those holding tickets for the performance that had just been rescheduled after Friday’s show was canceled.
Hopes for a rebound performance were dashed when Swims revealed that his doctor advised against any further singing, resulting in a full nixing of the weekend's plans. Hawaii News Now reported a follow-up from the artist ensuring fans that all online tickets purchased through Ticketmaster would be refunded automatically. Those with box office tickets are required to seek their refunds directly at the point of purchase with a deadline set for Wednesday, October 1 by 4 p.m.
In his statement, obtained by KITV, Swims expressed a heartfelt message, "I can't wait until I'm back and able to sing for you again," and "I love love love you!" The Blaisdell Center, which is connected to the Waikiki Shell, assured fans they will be accommodated for the cancellations and looks forward to hosting the rescheduled shows once the artist recovers.
