In a somber development out of Temecula, the Riverside Sheriff's Office reported an incident resulting in the death of 35-year-old George Fresquez IV, following an assault and subsequent vehicle collision. According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, deputies on a routine patrol discovered Fresquez unresponsive in the roadway of Pechanga Parkway late on Saturday night and attempted life-saving measures, which, tragically, were unsuccessful, leading to the victim being pronounced dead at the scene.
The case quickly escalated after initial findings showed that Fresquez’s injuries were consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Investigators soon discovered, however, that he had been attacked before being hit, and that the vehicle involved was unrelated to the assault and had simply been passing by. Authorities confirmed alcohol was not a factor after interviewing the driver. The Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit took over the case and soon identified 39-year-old Alex Leyva of Vista as the primary suspect in the assault that led to the fatal collision.
Leyva, who was apprehended and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center on murder charges, now awaits the next steps as the Riverside District Attorney's Office prepares to review and prosecute the case. In the wake of the incident, no further suspects are believed to be involved in the case, which remains active. The Riverside Sheriff's Office statement calls for anyone with information to come forward and contact either Investigator Farag of the Central Homicide Unit or Southwest Station Investigator Mills to assist with the ongoing investigation.
