In an official proclamation, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has instructed all state government buildings to fly their flags at half-staff to commemorate the life and mourn the loss of Charlie Kirk. This directive follows a presidential proclamation by Donald J. Trump, paying tribute to Kirk's memory after his untimely death.
The state-wide remembrance, as per the announcement made by Governor Abbott, is set to return the flags to full-staff come the sunset of Sunday, September 14, 2025. Kirk, a prominent figure revered by many young Americans, was the victim of an assassination – an act Governor Abbott condemned as having "no place in America" in a statement released earlier by the Office of the Texas Governor.
In the official statement, Abbott expressed profound sorrow, extending heartfelt condolences to Kirk's family, "Cecilia and I are heartbroken by the assassination and passing of Charlie Kirk. Charlie’s voice was a beacon for millions of young Americans searching for truth, courage, and conviction." The governor praised Kirk's legacy and reassured that Texas shares in the mourning of his loss.
Abbot's statement continued, acknowledging the profound impact Kirk left behind, especially on his immediate family, "Our prayers are with Charlie’s family and his loved ones, especially the two young children he leaves behind," as mentioned on the Office of the Texas Governor statement. Texas stands united, Governor Abbott affirmed, in both mourning and celebrating the enduring legacy of Charlie Kirk.
