Tragedy struck on Los Angeles' 405 Freeway on Monday afternoon as a pedestrian was fatally hit by a vehicle, causing significant traffic delays in the Sepulveda Pass area. According to KTLA, the incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. near Skirball Center Drive when an individual, standing outside their gray Toyota Prius on the freeway's shoulder, was struck by a flatbed tow truck.
The driver of the tow truck was later detained and given a field sobriety test on the scene. Following the test, "the driver of a flatbed tow truck that apparently struck the victim was given a field sobriety test and then taken into custody," as reported by KTLA. This accident prompted a response from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and forced the freeway to a standstill as it affected traffic all the way to the 101 interchange in the San Fernando Valley.
Further details emerging from the NBC Los Angeles article indicate that alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. The CHP made an arrest connected to the fatality, though details on the identity of both the victim and the suspect arrested have been kept under wraps. The southbound lanes, except the carpool lane, were closed that afternoon for the investigation and were reopened around 7 p.m., according to the same source.
