A 13-year-old boy tragically died in a fireworks-related incident in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Tulsa Police Department reported yesterday, shortly before 5:30 p.m., emergency services rushed to Sandy Park Apartments near 6300 W. 11th Pl. upon receiving calls about an explosion and a child suffering from cardiac arrest. Despite the rapid response and the attempts to save him, the teenager succumbed to his injuries shortly after being taken to the hospital.
According to a social media post from the Tulsa Police Department, witnesses observed a group of young males setting off fireworks that progressively got louder. Tragically, a small grass fire was noted shortly thereafter, with the young victim lying immobile on the ground. Bystanders acted swiftly to pull the child away from the fire and to immediately call 911 for help.
The situation unfurled as the group of children played with mortar-style fireworks. It was a game that turned horribly wrong when one of the devices was reported to be held by the victim with the mortar tube pointed at his head as it ignited.
The Tulsa Police Department's message is clear: fireworks safety is paramount. "This is a stark reminder that fireworks can be extremely dangerous. Please take every precaution when handling them," the department urged in the same post.
