A vehicular incident on Route 28 in Pittsburgh this morning resulted in two individuals being hospitalized, one of whom required rescue from their vehicle. The crash occurred near the North 8/Butler off-ramp, as reported by local authorities. WTAE communicated that the conditions of the hospitalized persons have not been made public following the incident.
Emergency medical services had to extricate one of the patients from the car wreckage, while Pittsburgh Public Safety confirmed that a second victim was also taken to the hospital. The southbound lanes of Route 28 were closed temporarily but have since been cleared by responders and reopened to traffic, according to PennDOT, cited by WPXI. Nevertheless, said officials, motorists traversing inbound on Rt. 28 at exit 5 should brace for "residual delays."
The specifics regarding the cause of the crash or the identities of those involved have not been disclosed at this time. Both outbound and inbound traffic on Rt. 28 experienced disturbances, with PennDOT advising drivers to anticipate continuing delays as a result of the earlier closures.
