
Chaos erupted in a Boston neighborhood when gunfire led to a double shooting followed by a car crash yesterday night in Mattapan. According to Boston 25 News, Boston police were called to the scene following a ShotSpotter activation around 10:53 p.m. at 37 Temple Street.
Upon arrival, officers found two adults with gunshot wounds. The victims, whose connection to each other remains opaque, were quickly treated by emergency medical services and transported to a local hospital with injuries deemed non-life-threatening. A third individual, a family member related to one of the victims, was also taken to the hospital as a precaution, but was not injured, police say a, vehicle likely involved in the shooting was discovered crashed in the vicinity.
Investigators spent the earlier this morning combing the scene where evidence markers dotted the landscape near the vehicle and a bullet casing was found, indicating the violence of the incident. The car, showing clear signs of distress with its broken glass and pockmarked facade from bullet holes, nestled against a utility pole, captured investigators' attention as they pieced together the night's events.
Nearby surveillance cameras added context to the narrative, picking up the sonic footprint of around 24 gunshots as relayed in and interview by a local resident to WCVB. "I heard, 'bang bang,' so I just dove on the floor," said Richard McHuph, a resident of Mattapan who also distinguished, the sounds from harmless firecrackers. Another neighbor's camera caught someone wielding a flashlight, moving through a driveway with the crashed SUV in the background.
Details on the victims begin to emerge as it was reported that both the woman and the man who sustained leg wounds were treated on the scene before hospitalization. A Honda CRV with several bullet holes, registered to one of the victims, was identified as part of the harrowing tableau. No arrests have been made in connection with the case which remains under active investigation.
