The San Rafael Police Department said the first responders were on the scene within minutes to evacuate residents and combat the flames. Unfortunately, amidst their valiant efforts, two lives were lost, and over 50 people were left without a home. The San Rafael Police Department also reported that one officer sustained injuries during the rescue but is anticipated to recover fully.

According to the same post by the San Rafael Police Department, the City quickly established a temporary shelter at the Albert J. Boro Community Center for those displaced. By the following day, alternative arrangements had been made, providing temporary hotel accommodations for all affected individuals, and the shelter was subsequently closed.
Investigative efforts to determine the cause of the fire are ongoing, and law enforcement has appealed to the public for assistance. The fire's origin has been marked as suspicious, and residents with any pertinent information, such as photos or videos from the early hours of that day, have been urged to come forward.
