Green-thumbed residents of Wright County have reason to put their gardening gloves on and dig into some new knowledge, all without spending a dime. The University of Minnesota Extension is offering its first "Gardening Knowledge for Free" class, geared toward helping both homeowners and novice gardeners cultivate a deeper understanding of sustainable practices. This session is set for September 25, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Wright County Government Center, located at 3650 Braddock Ave NE, Buffalo, in Room 1103.

According to the University of Minnesota Extension's announcement, the class will kick off with Jake Lunemann, a Wright County Extension Master Gardener, who'll present "Gardening to Save the World." Here, participants will have the chance to learn how to significantly reduce their carbon footprint, save water, and promote biodiversity right from their backyard. The session aims to teach attendees how to make an environmental impact through everyday garden activities, starting sharply at 6 p.m.

Following that, Quincy Sadowski, an Extension Educator for Horticulture, takes the podium at 7 p.m. Sadowski, who serves Stearns, Benton, Morrison, and Sherburne counties, will shed light on "Popular Non-Native Plants and Their Native Alternatives." This presentation is an opportunity for gardeners to identify which plants might not be the most suitable for Minnesota's diverse weather conditions and to progressively introduce more resilient native plant species that can thrive in the local environment.

While the event is completely free, those interested will need to officially sign up to secure their spot. Prospective attendees can register online at the Extension's website and learn more about the impactful ways they can contribute to both their local ecosystem and the wider natural world. Those with a passion for plants can stoke the fire of their interest and also meet fellow community members looking to similarly nurture their green spaces. This environmentally friendly get-together not only promises to be informative but also a chance to collectively grow towards a more sustainable community garden landscape.

For any horticultural queries or additional information, Wright, McLeod, and Meeker county residents are encouraged to reach out to Emily Lindenfelser via email at [email protected]. The University of Minnesota Extension remains a resource for those seeking to expand their gardening acumen and foster a more sustainable relationship with the earth, one plant at a time.
