Concerns at the University of North Texas (UNT) are on the rise following a series of burglaries in residence halls. The UNT Police Department is currently investigating the incidents that plagued McConnell Hall last Wednesday and earlier, Victory Hall on September 2.
According to a social media post from the UNT Police Department, the thefts occurred when an unknown subject accessed the buildings through doors left unlocked by suitemates. The burglars took the opportunity while residents were away to make off with their possessions.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the UNT Police urge anyone with information to come forward and contact UNT Criminal Investigative Services at 940-565-3006 or, for those wishing to remain anonymous, to call 940-369-TIPS (8477). The department's post did not just serve as a call to action but also as a reminder of best security practices to the students and staff. On the list was locking your doors consistently, discussing security protocols with suitemates, and reporting any suspicious behavior immediately, which can be done by dialing or texting 911.
