Wailuku's vibe gets a colorful boost this First Friday as the community gears up to leave its mark, quite literally, on the County of Maui’s Wailuku Garage. In front of the Historic ʻĪao Theater from 5:30 to 9 p.m., locals of all ages have the chance to get their hands paint-stained by contributing to a new Community Wall Art Project. The event, part of the vibrant Wailuku First Friday celebrations, promises to be as hands-on as it gets.

The family-friendly endeavor is not just a painting session but a collective effort, with guidance provided by local artists. According to an announcement on Maui County's official website, "This project is an opportunity for the community to come together and co-create something lasting for everyone to enjoy," noted Marc Takamori, Director of the County Department of Transportation. With the oversight from the Department and the creative execution by contractor Sae Design Group, the mural is set to bring a new artistic facet to the Wailuku Garage.

Injecting a celebratory spirit, the event coincides with various festivities. Alongside making art, attendees can soak in live music and savor a range of food offerings. Local vendors will set up shop, proving once again that Wailuku First Friday is an eclectic mix of culture and commerce. Plus, there’s added incentive for eager artists: the first 50 participants to roll up their sleeves for the art project score a complimentary original Maui Thing Wailuku Town Bridge T-shirt.
