Wake Forest is set to host a significant public meeting where residents can voice their insights on the upcoming skate park. This gathering, set for September 30, as per a press release from the Town of Wake Forest, is the latest in the towns efforts to bolster its recreational offerings. After obtaining 8.3 acres adjacent to Devon Square and E. Carroll Joyner Park in December 2023, Wake Forest aims to enrich the community with new sporting facilities, including a skate park and a pump track.
Having received a hefty $500,000 Parks & Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) grant late last year, the town's enthusiasm seems matched by financial support. Only after seeking public input through meetings and an online survey did the grant come through – a democratic bedrock, shaping civic infrastructure. Wake Forest employed New Line Skatepark Inc. to manage the construction and design earlier this year, walking the town one step closer to its much-anticipated skate park and pump track.
Set to unfold at 6 p.m. in the Wake Forest Town Hall Ground Floor Meeting Room, the September 30 meeting is an open invitation for the public to weigh in on the project's numerous components. Those include not only the skate park and pump track but also additional features like basketball and fitness courts, restrooms, and a picnic shelter. Easily accessed via Town Hall's Taylor Street entrance, the meeting is framed as a roundtable for community voices with town staff and New Line Skatepark representatives on deck to field questions and collect feedback.
The formal proceedings will begin with a presentation, creating space for an extended open discussion. Here, attendees can present questions and offer suggestions about the construction of the new facility. According to the Town of Wake Forest's announcement, "The meeting will include a brief presentation, followed by an open discussion where attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and share suggestions."
