Yesterday morning, a fatal vehicle crash claimed the life of a 34-year-old woman in Vermilion, Ohio. The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed that Sarah Gehringer of Wakeman was driving a 2003 Dodge Dakota when she reportedly lost control of her vehicle. The incident occurred near Darrow Road, just east of Furnace Street, according to a news release from the OSHP, sourced by Cleveland19.
The OSHP report indicated that Gehringer was traveling eastbound on Darrow Road when she handled a curve at a high speed and subsequently lost control. Her truck went off the left side of the road, striking a utility pole and two trees. This violent series of impacts led to her being ejected from the truck. Gehringer, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was declared dead at the scene. Investigators believe that drugs and alcohol may have been contributing factors to the crash, as noted by FOX8 News.
The crash occurred around 12:15 a.m., eliciting a response from first responders who found the badly damaged Dodge Dakota off the road, close to the westbound lane. "That section of Darrow Road was closed for about three hours while troopers investigated," according to details from the Sandusky Register. They added that during the investigation, funeral home workers removed the body, and a tow truck cleared the crash site. Meanwhile, a local power company assessed potential damage to lines, although no power outages were reported in the immediate area.
