
Responding to a trespassing complaint at a Windsor property, a police deputy was forced to defend himself against an aggressive dog by discharging his service weapon, resulting in the animal's death, according to a social media post from the Town of Windsor Police Department, CA. The encounter took place around 2:15 PM on Monday, leaving the deputy with minor injuries.
At a rural property located in the 200 block of American Way, Miel Singletary Schultz, 53, from Santa Rosa, was arrested during the incident on drug-related charges, alongside 49-year-old Eric Chad McCarty, who was also charged with trespassing and probation violations. Aggressively approached by the dog while conducting the investigation, the deputy had to resort to using his firearm for protection subsequently.
No others were reported injured during the altercation. The Windsor Police Department emphasized their commitment to community safety and expressed gratitude for the public's understanding in resolving such situations.
Charges against Schultz included possession of a controlled substance, possession of controlled substance paraphernalia, and trespassing. McCarty faces charges of trespassing and two counts of probation violation, confirmed after the dog unfortunately attacked the officer, per the department's statement.
