Calling all Woodbury residents with a penchant for civic engagement: the clock is ticking with applications due soon for city advisory commissions. Those keen to shape the direction of local policies on everything from economic development to parks and planning have until Sunday, October 5, to throw their hats in the proverbial ring.
According to a recent announcement by the city, appointed volunteers to these commissions can expect to serve three-year terms in most cases, although some incumbents may find themselves in the unique position, being eligible for reappointment. Noteworthy among the commissions seeking participants are the Audit and Investment Commission, Economic Development Commission, and Parks and Natural Resources Commission—areas crucial to the city's functioning and progression.
Woodbury's youth are not left behind as there exist opportunities tailored specifically for high school students in grades 10 and 11. Young residents eager to get involved in local governance can apply to be part of the Parks and Natural Resources Commission and Planning Commission, where they can serve one-year terms and possibly a second year, contingent on the City Council's discretion.
Beyond the standard commissions, Woodbury extends a call to those looking to take on a visionary role; volunteers are meanwhile eagerly sought to join two new advisory groups forming in 2026. With eyes set on the horizon, the 2050 Comprehensive Plan Task Force will devise a blueprint for the city's growth and development through mid-century, and the Parks and Facilities Long-Range Planning Focus Group tasked with flagging future needs for the community's parks and facilities. These volunteers will unite with community organisations and city staff, embarking on projects anchored in community engagement and strategic foresight.
The pathway to participation is straightforward for future-focused Woodbury denizens. Applications are available online, and the door closes on the opportunity come Sunday, Oct. 5. Following the application process, the interviews conducted by the City Council on Saturday, November 8, will serve as the final hurdle before appointments are made and terms begin in earnest in January.
