Local authorities have encountered a navigational hazard in the form of a sunken vessel in the Sacramento River, with removal operations impending. Identified as "The Hollywood," the roughly 40-foot boat currently rests submerged near the Yolo County bank, causing potential danger to other river users. According to the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office, obtained by FOX40, the watercraft is located about one-half mile south of Sherwood Harbor Marina.
The submerged status of the boat has prompted officials to act, citing the vessel as a "navigational hazard." The owner of the boat has not yet been contacted, making the situation more pressing. The YCSO stated, "Failure to claim ownership or provide ownership information prior to removal may result in the vessel being destroyed at the owner’s expense, pursuant to applicable state law," as reported by FOX40. The Sheriff’s Office is scheduled to move the vessel on September 15, as part of the California Surrendered and Abandoned Vessel Exchange Grant Agreement, indicating a small window for the owner to step forward.
Authorities are making an appeal to the public for assistance in this matter. Sgt. Jeremy Hembree of the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office is the point of contact for any information regarding the legal owner of "The Hollywood." In a news release, deputies wrote, "Efforts to identify and contact the registered owner of this vessel have been unsuccessful." The Sheriff’s Office has provided contact details for Sgt. Hembree at [email protected] or 530-406-5151, as noted by ABC10.
