The Yolo County Board of Supervisors recently approved the Annual Coast and Creek Cleanup Day, scheduled for Saturday, September 20. According to the county's announcement, the event will be held at the Broderick Boat Ramp from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

This year’s cleanup effort is part of a 41-year statewide tradition in California, with volunteers expected to participate at more than 700 sites. The Yolo County Board of Supervisors states the event focuses not only on litter removal but also on environmental protection and community engagement. In 2024, volunteers across the state collected hundreds of thousands of pounds of debris, preventing it from entering waterways and the Pacific Ocean.

Adding a new element to this year’s event, the theme “Join the Treasure Hunt!” will introduce a scavenger-style activity at cleanup sites. Select locations will feature hidden items among the debris, giving volunteers an opportunity to find designated objects and receive small rewards. Yolo County will host cleanups at eight designated sites, each prepared to participate in this initiative.

District 1 Supervisor Oscar Villegas referred to the Broderick Boat Ramp as a significant location in his personal history, mentioning experiences from childhood to adulthood. In the Yolo County news posting, he stated, "Coast and Creek Cleanup Day highlights the power of community partnerships from the California Coastal Commission to our local volunteers, all working together to protect and preserve our waterways."
