Yolo County is opening its doors to local nonprofits and other interested organizations for suggestions on how to improve animal services. In an effort to enhance operations such as shelter management, veterinary services, and community education, the county has issued a Request for Information (RFI). "This exploratory process will help us identify qualified organizations that may be strong partners in promoting and protecting the health and welfare of both animals and residents within Yolo County," Angel Barajas, Yolo County Board of Supervisors and the county's representative on the Animal Services JPA committee, said in a statement released by Yolo County.

With the goal to closely assess the current state and future potential of their animal services, the county is poised to gather detailed information which will inform their approach in collaborations and service enhancements. Areas of focus include not only traditional shelter and adoption services but also spay/neuter and vaccination clinics, along with humane law enforcement. Information collected through this RFI is intended strictly for information-gathering purposes and will not directly result in a contract.

By engaging organizations in this initiative, Yolo County aims to build a reservoir of knowledge and expertise that could translate into improved welfare for animals in the region. The county's partnership with cities of Davis, West Sacramento, Winters, and Woodland underscores the community-wide impetus for progress in this area.

Interested parties have until October 23 to submit their Vendor Response Form, which can be done electronically through the platform Beacon or by email. Each submission will be critical to assess the approaches for the future organizational models of animal services in Yolo County.
