James D. Price Elementary, a school serving the children of military families at Yuma Proving Grounds, is finally on track to receive much-needed upgrades. In a major financial boost, Arizona Senators Ruben Gallego and Mark Kelly have announced an $8 million federal grant earmarked for the construction of a new school facility. The current establishment, beset by leaky ceilings and inadequate facilities, has been a cause for concern among parents and educators alike.
"Military children deserve a safe place to go to school and learn – not one that is crumbling," Senator Gallego stated, according to his official website. His sentiments were echoed by Senator Kelly, who emphasized that "Military families deserve good schools where kids can learn and be set up for success." The grant will address significant infrastructure problems at the school which serves kindergarten through fifth grade students.
The push for a new school has been on the agenda for years, as conveyed by Dawn Marie from James D. Price Elementary School. "The new, modern school will represent far more than a construction project—it will be a significant investment in the future of our students and a testament to the enduring strength of our community," she told Senator Gallego's office. With over 125 students slated to benefit from the new facility, the community's anticipation for the improved learning environment is palpable.
Details of the project reveal that the new school building will feature a fully equipped kitchen for hot lunches, an auditorium for indoor activities, and dedicated spaces for art and music education. Enhancements in school layout are also expected to improve security, and the overall experience for the students, according to the senator's website.
