An 11-year-old child was seriously injured after their e-scooter collided with a school bus in Middleburg on Friday morning, according to Florida Highway Patrol. As reported by First Coast News, the incident occurred just before 8 a.m. at the intersection of Pine Ridge Parkway and Creek Bluff Lane. The FHP's report details that the child ran into the left front side of the bus while attempting to cross the street.
The child, whose identity has not been disclosed, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. However, Clay County Fire Rescue mentioned to Action News Jax that the injuries were minor. Discrepancies in the severity of the injuries between different reports have not been clarified as of yet. Information regarding the child's current condition remains limited.
News4JAX further described the accident, stating that the school bus was making a left turn onto Creek Bluff Lane as the child was traveling east along the sidewalk on Pine Ridge Parkway. When the child proceeded across Creek Bluff Lane, they collided with the school bus which was also traveling east on Pine Ridge Parkway and attempting the left turn.
Seven students who were aboard the school bus at the time of the crash did not sustain injuries, according to the FHP. Local authorities, including Clay County Sheriff's Office deputies, were on the scene to assist with the incident. The investigation has handed over to the Florida Highway Patrol, which continues to further understand the circumstances around the collision.
