The Sacramento community gathered in full force yesterday to celebrate the 48th annual Sacramento Jewish Food Faire, a beloved community staple that's been tantalizing taste buds for nearly half a century; the festivities unfolded at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center, as reported by KFBK.
Marking a new era of growth, the event scaled up from its roots at Congregation Beth Shalom, this year's venue provided ample space for an expected influx of attendees who came to enjoy local vendors, live music, a kids' play area, and, notably, the first-ever "Best Bagel Contest" - featuring a lineup of local bakeries fighting for the top spot, such as Forgotten Bakery, Deluco Farms, and Posh Bagel, as per a report by KCRA.
At 1 p.m., the coveted contest saw its inaugural winner crowned amid enthusiastic cheers, with judging conducted by an impressive panel that included Sacramento Mayor Kevin McCarty and celebrity reviewers The Taste Duo. This new addition to the fair's schedule excited both longtime attendees and newcomers alike and highlighted the rich tapestry of community, culture, and connection that Chair Theresa Golden spoke of, as noted by KFBK.
Aside from the heated bagel battle, perennial favorites continued to draw crowds with the scent of matzo ball soup, pastrami sandwiches, and lox bagels wafting through the air. The event stayed true to its roots with these authentic Jewish deli-style offerings, and while pre-ordering wasn’t an option this time, the nosh was plentiful. As the official event website, SacJewishFoodFaire.com, reminded visitors, many left with full bellies and arms laden with goodies to enjoy at home.
