Fishing enthusiasts, mark your calendars for the Big Bass Rodeo at New Orleans City Park, a tradition that's been hooking anglers since its inception. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, in partnership with City Park Conservancy, is setting the stage for the 77th annual event on March 28, 2026. According to the LDWF official announcement, "This event offers categories and activities for all ages and skill levels and consists of adult and youth divisions for anglers to compete."
Packed with competitions like the Battle for the Bass, Boats on the Bayou, and the Cichlid + Bream Trim, participants from grades 6-12 through adult anglers are expected to not only cast their lines but also to fiercely compete for the heaviest catch. These events invite both novices and experienced fishermen to celebrate a shared passion for freshwater fishing, with the stipulation that all adult anglers must hold a valid Louisiana recreational fishing license, a requirement emphasized in the event's literature. The excitement isn't limited to the water's edge, as the accompanying Fishtival promises free entertainment, including a DJ, food, and fishing gear deals.
More information about registration can be found on the City Park Big Bass Fishing Rodeo webpage. The event is also calling for sponsors, exhibitors, and volunteers, urging interested parties to get in touch with Danica Williams at the LDWF for more details.
Meanwhile, the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation is hosting its inaugural conservation raffle, aiming to "directly benefit programs led by LDWF, including habitat restoration, wildlife and fisheries research, public access enhancements, and education initiatives," as mentioned on the LDWF website. The grand prize, a Chevy Silverado valued at $60,000, is sure to reel in participants looking to support conservation efforts and maybe, just maybe, drive away with more than just a fish tale. Those interested can cast their net by purchasing raffle tickets through the LAWFF website until January 8, 2026. Terms and conditions apply, and the contest is void where prohibited.
