Amkor Technology, known for its semiconductor packaging and testing services, has kicked off the construction of its new $7 billion manufacturing campus in Peoria, a strategic move that's hitting the ground running within the city's freshly minted Innovation Core. The groundbreaking step has been described by Amkor's President and CEO, Giel Rutten, as a significant stride in the company's pursuit for growth and innovation, he remarked, "We're building a facility to meet our customers' most advanced needs that will help shape the future of semiconductor manufacturing in the United States," a statement obtained by Peoria’s official website states.

Spanning over 750,000 square feet, the campus will be developed in two phases providing much-needed cleanroom manufacturing space and is expected to, once fully operational, provide up to 3,000 jobs in several technical and advanced manufacturing fields, Peoria Mayor Jason Beck has lauded this venture as a cornerstone for regional progress, heralding the thousands of quality jobs and the substantial economic influx it promises to the area, meanwhile reinforcing the nation's semiconductor supply chain—he said this joyous development of Amkor's facility was a testament to what can be achieved through the synergy of public and corporate collaboration in an interview featured on Peoria's official site.

Last month, the City of Peoria secured an 834.5-acre land parcel from the state trust via public auction to foster new development within the Peoria Innovation Core, and Amkor is setting up shop on 104 of those acres to address urgent gaps in the domestic chip supply chain by moving advanced packaging and testing operations back to American grounds. Completion of construction is anticipated by mid-2027 with the gears of production slated to start turning in early 2028, just in time to catch up with the ever-growing demand in semiconductor technology.

Coinciding with SEMICON West, the largest semiconductor conference brought to Phoenix for the first time, is this groundbreaking ceremony, establishing a moment of convergence for industry leaders and stakeholders to ponder over the groundbreaking establishment of Amkor’s latest plant. Further details can be gleaned from their announcement on Peoria’s official website.
