Last Saturday night was a momentous occasion at Globe Life Field in Arlington, not just for the grandeur of the venue but for a cause that hits close to home for many Texans. According to a post by the White Settlement Police Department, the Airpower Foundation's Sky Ball XXIII gathered crowds to fundraise in a display of overwhelming support for military members and their kin. The event, embellished by the presence of CBS 11 News Anchor Doug Dunbar as Master of Ceremonies, had a specific target to bolster – the NAS JRB Fort Worth and military families in their midst.
In an atmosphere imbued with patriotism, nearly $300,000 was raised by the evening's conclusion – a testament to the communal spirit that the Sky Ball aims to foster. Not to be overlooked is the culinary contribution of Celebrity Chef Robert Irvine, who prepared meals for the attendees and is known for his active support of Gold Star families through his eponymous foundation. The financials are stark and telling – nearly a third of a million dollars funneled towards a cause that lends stability to those who have pledged their lives to the nation's defense.
There was a heartfelt element to the event as well, one that marked the future of service in this country. Among the attendees, hundreds of young teens, on the cusp of adulthood, stood to take the Oath of Enlistment. As mentioned by the White Settlement PD's social media post, these teens are joining the military after high school graduation, choosing a path of dedication and sacrifice at such a young age.
