The quest for Athens-Clarke County's public Christmas tree is officially underway, with local officials turning to residents for a generous donation. According to a recent notice from the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government (ACCGov), the Central Services Department's Landscape Management Division is in search of a cedar tree that will tower in front of City Hall this December, basking in festive glory for all to see.
Property owners with a cedar tree matching the specified criteria—approximately 20 feet in diameter and 35 feet tall—should consider reaching out. Inching towards the sky, the ideal tree would also be symmetrical with a single trunk, potentially being a nuisance or a looming threat in its current standing place. As reported by ACCGov's announcement, this is a unique opportunity for those planning on future tree removals to avoid the usual hassles and costs associated with the process.
The Landscape Management Division promises a hassle-free experience for the benevolent donor, shouldering the responsibility of meticulously evaluating candidates before handling the tree removal and its transportation to City Hall. An opportunity presents itself here for the community to partake in the festive spirit, infusing the air with both generosity and pine.
Tree owners who wish to donate a tree for the city’s holiday display are asked to contact Landscape Management at 706-613-3561 by Friday, November 21. According to ACCGov, the selected tree will be cut on December 1 and carefully prepared to become the city’s Christmas centerpiece.
