The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government's Public Utilities Department is seeking local input on its 2025 Service Delivery Plan, which features 50 proposed capital improvement projects aimed at addressing the community's future water and wastewater needs. The plan, which is updated every five years, is currently up for review, with public engagement opportunities available through a series of open houses as well as an online survey, open through November 2, as per the ACCGov announcement.
Developed to project the water and sewer infrastructure needs over a 20-year span, the 2025 Service Delivery Plan has been crafted with the community's values and the objectives set forth by the Mayor and Commission; this includes, however, considering infrastructure capital improvements and the financial strategies necessary to fund them, according to ACCGov's statement. The public's feedback is essential as these projects have been extensively categorized, evaluated, and prioritized, ensuring they align with both the immediate and the long-term needs of Athens-Clarke County residents.
The Public Utilities Department is organizing open house events on various dates in multiple locations, including the Snipes Water Resources Center, the Athens-Clarke County Library, the Goodwill East Athens Training Center, and the Athens-Clarke County Extension Office, where interested parties can drop by to gain insight into the planned projects, ask questions directly to officials, and offer their input regarding the proposed initiatives.
Details on the projects, their descriptions, associated fact sheets, and the online survey can be found on the Service Delivery Plan webpage, and residents are encouraged to visit the site to learn more about how the Public Utilities Department is planning to meet the future demands for water and wastewater services in their area.
