Atlanta has recently paid tribute to the late Malcolm-Jamal Warner, an actor cherished by audiences for his portrayal of Theo Huxtable on "The Cosby Show," with two distinctive honors. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the city bestowed a posthumous proclamation ceremony to celebrate Warner's contributions to the arts. Councilman Michael Julian Bond, who had known Warner since 1988, presented the proclamation to his family, asserting that Warner "leaves behind a lasting impact on the world."
In the proclamation ceremony, Bond fondly recalled Warner's deep love for people and how he was equally adored by them, calling him a figure of artistry and kindness. Tragically drowned earlier this year while with his family on a vacation in Costa Rica, Warner was just 54 at the time of his passing. "One of the things about Malcolm," Bond told attendees, "was how much he loved people — and how much people loved him so," as noted by FOX 5 Atlanta.
In unison with the proclamation, the city has also declared October 20th as Malcolm-Jamal Warner Day, as reported by WRDW. This dedication is not only an acknowledgment of his role on "The Cosby Show" but also his participation in the local art scene of Atlanta, including his involvement in spoken word performances and music with his band Biological Misfits.
During an interview remembering his son, Robert Warner Jr. reflected on Malcolm-Jamal Warner's off-screen persona, "From ‘The Cosby Show’ forward, I’ve had a sense that people have admired him. His work makes us very proud of Malcolm. He was a great guy, a decent human being. More than that, he was a lovely human being, fame and fortune aside," Robert Warner Jr. said in a statement obtained by WRDW.
