The city of Austin was brought to high alert this past week when a suspect was apprehended in connection with two separate shooting instances that occurred on Saturday, October 25. As reported by the Austin Police Department, 55-year-old Harold N. Keene now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault and deadly conduct.
The ordeal began in the early hours of Saturday when APD officers arrived on Guadalupe Street in response to a shooting. They found one victim who had been shot. The suspect had already fled the scene, and officers conducted a search but were unable to locate the individual at the time. Later that day, a second victim was similarly injured at the Austin Central Library, leading to an intensified search by authorities who issued a description to help apprehend the individual responsible.
Keene was ultimately arrested later Saturday inside a store located at a South Lamar shopping center. Austin Police credited tips from the public and collaboration with partner agencies for the quick resolution. Confirming the news, authorities stated Keene is currently held at Travis County Jail, with his charges reflecting the seriousness of the crimes.
Both victims from the incidents were taken to local hospitals and, thankfully, authorities have announced that they are expected to survive their injuries.
