In a stern delivery of justice, a Baltimore judge sentenced Vincent Harris to an effective 120 years behind bars, suspending two life sentences for his involvement in a double murder case. The violence claimed the lives of Di'Shon Smith and Deshaun Waters back on July 25, 2023. This sentencing follows the earlier decision in which co-defendant Tyrone Payne received two consecutive life terms.
According to information from the Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City, "I hope that the families of Mr. Smith and Mr. Waters take some measure of comfort in knowing that the men responsible for this heinous act of violence will spend the remainder of their lives behind bars," said State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates in light of the sentencing. Assistant State’s Attorney Amy Brown's prosecution was instrumental in achieving this outcome, and the message is clear: Baltimore will not tolerate gun violence.
The chilling events unfolded when Baltimore Police responded to a reported shooting on Hollins Ferry Road, where Smith was found dead and Waters critically injured, later dying at a hospital. The attack was captured on video, showing three assailants, including Harris and Payne, executing the brazen act before fleeing in a stolen 2019 Silver Nissan Sentra.
Law enforcement's diligent investigation led to the recovery of the getaway vehicle and incriminating surveillance footage. Two individuals identified from the car abandonment scene were linked to the crime through evidence pieced together from various video feeds. Harris and Payne were captured on camera parking the damaged vehicle on Millington Avenue and removing items from it before leaving the scene. In a job well done, the coalition of surveillance technology and detective work closed the net on the perpetrators.
