The Cincinnati Bearcats secured their bowl eligibility yesterday with a dominant 49-17 victory over the Oklahoma State Cowboys. This win puts Cincinnati at a 6-1 mark for the season, maintaining a perfect record of 4-0 within the Big 12. As reported by The Sports Leader, this noteworthy achievement is the team's first bowl eligibility since 2022 and a landmark success in head coach Scott Satterfield's tenure.
At the helm of Cincinnati's effort was quarterback Brendan Sorsby, who flawlessly executed the game plan, completing 20 of 29 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns. Incompletions only marred the crisp air, as Sorsby's passes met their marks without a single interception. Adding to his impressive night, Sorsby not only demonstrated his passing prowess but also managed to rush for a touchdown in the early fourth quarter. He connected with nine different receivers, according to GoBearcats, spreading the offensive threat across the field.
Cyrus Allen, a senior wide receiver for the Bearcats, showcased his multifaceted skills, grabbing two touchdowns through the air and adding a 14-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter. On the other side of the ball, cornerback Matthew McDoom grabbed the spotlight with a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown, marking the longest in school history. McDoom's pick-six was also the team’s first interception and non-offensive touchdown of the season, which was detailed by ESPN.
While the Bearcats' defense allowed 377 yards against an Oklahoma State offense, they countered this by forcing turnovers, critical in sealing the team's victory. Looking ahead, Cincinnati’s remaining schedule features some stiff competition with the likes of Baylor, Utah, Arizona, BYU, and TCU on the docket, as pointed out by The Sports Leader. They'll need to maintain their defensive tenacity and offensive proficiency to navigate the rest of the season successfully.
