The City of Bellevue is ramping up its traffic safety measures this October with plans to install speed safety cameras at 37 potential locations, expanding on devices already in operation since 2009. Residents can view the proposed map, provide feedback until November 30, and join information sessions on October 28 and October 30 to learn more about the site selections and criteria, according to the City of Bellevue.

The initiative supports Bellevue’s Vision Zero goal to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries by 2030, with a City Council decision expected in December and installation possibly starting by mid-2026. Transportation Director Andrew Singelakis emphasized the city’s commitment, stating, “Speed remains a top contributing factor in serious and fatal collisions,” as reported by the City of Bellevue.

Before the new speed cameras are activated, the City of Bellevue will start a public awareness campaign and implement a 30-day grace period that issues warnings instead of citations. The City says the program is based on safety, equity, and fairness, with cameras placed where they are most needed and fines kept reasonable. Residents who receive public assistance or are enrolled in Washington’s WIC program can request a 50% fine reduction within 21 days.
