A housekeeper was arrested in a recent crackdown on theft and burglary at a local retirement community. Tania Soliven, linked to thefts amounting to $50,000 at the Pacifica Bonita Villas Retirement Facility, was arrested after a search warrant at her Bonita apartment revealed a trove of what appears to be stolen goods and illegal substances.
The operation, which took place on October 2, involved detectives from the Imperial Beach Sheriff's Substation, members of the Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) team, and the Sheriff's Special Enforcement Detail (SED). The search of Soliven's residence in the 4200 block of Bonita Road led to the recovery of items suspected to be stolen from elderly residents where Soliven worked, alongside personal-use narcotics, unregistered weapons, and ammunition.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, five handguns, one rifle, and various forms of ammunition were discovered alongside methamphetamine and a pipe for using the drug. Soliven, whose job was to help maintain the third floor of the retirement facility, now faces charges related to possession of ammunition and narcotics after being booked into Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility.
The search didn't stop at narcotics and firearms; detectives also seized several computers and cellphones as potential links to the crimes. Countless jewelry and collectible coins suspected of being stolen from residents at the retirement home were among the stolen property. The Sheriff's Office is reaching out to anyone connected to the Pacifica Bonita Villas Retirement Facility who suspects theft to come forward with information.
While the investigation is ongoing, those with potentially affected family members at the retirement facility are encouraged to contact the Imperial Beach Sheriff's Substation at (619) 498-2400.
