The City of Boston is preparing for its General Municipal Election on November 4, when residents will vote for Mayor and members of the Boston City Council. The Boston Election Department has issued a call for poll workers and provided reminders to voters to ensure the election runs as scheduled, according to the city's release.
This year’s election will include contests for nine District City Council seats and four At-Large City Council seats. To support election day operations, the city is inviting Bostonians to apply for poll worker positions. The role offers a stipend of $160–$200. Those interested can apply through the city’s website or contact the Election Department via email or phone.
A key deadline approaches for voters, with registration closing tomorrow. Residents can register in person at City Hall, online at voteinma.com, or by mail, provided the postmark is on or before the deadline. Early voting is also available, with Boston City Hall offering dates and times for casting ballots prior to Election Day.
The status of mailed or absentee ballots depends on timely submission. As of Thursday, 51,769 ballots had been sent out, with 11,602 returned. The department encourages voters who have not yet mailed their ballots to consider alternative delivery methods to ensure their votes are counted. Accessibility remains a focus, with ballot tracking available and support for voters with disabilities provided through an Accessible Electronic Voting System. On Election Day, official polling locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., offering language interpreters and accessible voting terminals.
The Election Department is implementing Poll Pads to facilitate faster and secure voter check-ins, a system successfully used during preliminary voting. Advance processing of ballots will begin at City Hall on October 27 and continue through October 31, covering all early votes received. Each polling location will be prepared to manage all aspects of voting, with media guidelines in place to regulate press access and maintain the integrity of the election.
