Boston residents should brace themselves for a wet and potentially disrupted Halloween as a combination of a midweek system and Hurricane Melissa impacts weather conditions. The start of the week in Boston will remain cool and calm, with temperatures hovering in the low 50s from Monday through Wednesday, and clouds expected to thicken ahead of a demanding end to the week. The National Weather Service forecasts a chance of showers on Wednesday with a noticeable uptick in the northeast wind.
A First Alert has been issued for Thursday amid expectations of soaking rain and gusty winds—conditions that continue into Friday morning, casting uncertainty over Halloween festivities. "At this point, Friday evening trick-or-treat plans look iffy," as reported by NBC Boston, indicating the potential for lingering showers which may interfere with traditional Halloween activities. Despite tumultuous weather, temperatures are predicted to remain seasonable.
Compounding the concern for Bostonians is Hurricane Melissa, currently intensifying in the Caribbean. Regarded as a powerful Category 4 hurricane, Melissa boasts winds near 145 mph and could escalate to Category 5 before making landfall. The hurricane is projected to bring catastrophic conditions to Jamaica and eastern Cuba before heading toward the southeastern Bahamas. As reported by NBC Boston, "If Melissa is above category 3 strength as it makes landfall in Jamaica (which it likely will be) it will be the strongest hurricane on record for Jamaica."
