Boulder County's Mobility and Access Coalition (MAC) recently celebrated the unsung heroes of public transportation during the Mobility Heroes Winter Luncheon. The event, detailed by Boulder County, was held on October 15 and recognized individuals dedicated to enhancing mobility and transportation equity across the county.

About 60 people were in attendance, ranging from bus and paratransit drivers to volunteer drivers, dispatchers, and safety professionals, all integral to the development of effective multimodal transportation systems in Boulder County. Angel Bond and several others bestowed awards to six individuals for their exceptional contributions, highlighting the need to compensate for the nationwide driver shortage and bolster multimodal transport. The awardees included well-deserving figures like Deidre Leggett and Teresa Caycho, who won accolades such as Favorite Paratransit Driver and Favorite Safety Professional, respectively.

The ceremony was more than just an awards luncheon; it was a testament to the collective efforts aimed at making transportation more equitable. According to Angel Bond, in comments from the event, "Our mobility heroes go above and beyond—whether behind the wheel, volunteering their time helping others, or promoting walking, biking, transit, and paratransit," as per Boulder County. These heroes, she asserts, are creating a more equitable, inclusive, and safe transportation experience for everyone.

Moreover, the MAC utilized the opportunity to honor its Volunteer Ambassadors, individuals who work diligently to expand transportation options that are equitable, affordable, and accessible. Names like Adriana Paola Palacios and Aljoana Gilmore were among the many acknowledged for their unwavering commitment to the community's mobility needs. The event, catered by Danny’s Tacos, also offered guests a chance to immerse themselves in the success stories of these mobility advocates through photo albums and videos available in both English and Spanish.
