The Boulder County Clerk & Recorder's office is set to demystify the post-election ballot-counting process with an "Election Night and Beyond – What to Expect" webinar, slated for October 30 at noon. Boulder County Clerk & Recorder Molly Fitzpatrick will be the host, delving into the aftermath of Election Day, specifically discussing the various types of ballots that will still need to be counted and the mechanisms behind the process. This event is critical for those invested in the election outcomes, be it the press, political campaigners, or city clerks, offering a chance to ask questions and gain insights directly from election officials.
An important note to keep in mind is that counting does not abruptly end when polls close. To swiftly clear any misconceptions, the webinar will cover the post-Election Night activity, which typically includes ballot processing on the following Wednesday, Thursday, and potentially Friday. There's also a "cure" period for voters to rectify any issues, such as signature discrepancies, with the final deadline for these corrections falling on the 9th day after Election Day. According to the Boulder County Clerk & Recorder's Office, military and overseas ballots have up to November 12 to be received and counted.
Anyone seeking to attend the webinar is required to RSVP by 11 a.m. on the day of the event to receive the participation link. The session aims not only to shine a light on the lingering counting process but also to discuss scenarios that may arise from close contests. As the county officials make it clear, no contest is called by their office; only certification at the final Canvass Board Meeting solidifies the results, tentatively scheduled for November 25 in the afternoon.
