The Boulder District Attorney's Office is basking in some well-earned limelight after being gifted the Outstanding Trial Team Achievement Award by the Colorado District Attorney’s Council, a nod to their steadfast performance on the infamous King Soopers case. Boulder County reported that this team, led by DA Michael Dougherty, along with Assistant DA Ken Kupfner, the once-First Assistant DA Katharina Booth, Senior Investigator Sarah Cantu, and Paralegal Elisabeth Scanlon, was recognized not just for their legal prowess but for an undying commitment to a community grappling with one of its darkest chapters.
Representing what's best about public service, this particular ensemble tackled the King Soopers case, which demanded not just legal expertise, but a magnitude of emotional fortitude as well. According to Boulder County, the award celebrates those Colorado trial teams comprised of attorneys, investigators, paralegals, and other staff who went above and beyond on a significant state prosecution. "Our trial team fought hard for justice for the victims, their families and this community," said DA Dougherty, speaking to a truth that this wasn't just legal wrangling but a service to a wounded public heart.
With the dust settling post-trial, the recognition from CDAC isn't just a feather in the cap for the honorees; it’s a broader acknowledgment of the dedication required by the justice system faced with high-profile and deeply impactful cases. That much is clear when DA Dougherty says the entire office should be proud, as everyone played a role in the uphill battle of the King Soopers case, which, following his 'honor and humbled' remark, one can only assume translates into long hours and teamwork woven into the fabric of their office.
