Boulder, Colorado's community-driven initiative to enhance gun safety, is paying off, as evidenced by the turnout at Boulder Community Health's Foothills Campus on Saturday, October 18th. As reported by Boulder County, the free gun safe giveaway event, organized in collaboration with the Boulder Rotary Club, YMCA of Northern Colorado, the District Attorney’s Office, and BCH itself, netted an enthusiastic response from locals.

The initiative is not just about handing out gun safes; it has the gravitas of a communal commitment to stave off potential accidents and crimes through responsible firearm storage. In the span of 20 minutes, the event saw the distribution of 510 gun safes, which included 260 for home use, 250 for automobiles, along with about 150 cable locks, as per Boulder County. The educational materials on gun safety and the offer of free Narcan were bonuses to attendees there to bolster the security of their firearms.

Funding to the tune of around $20,000 enabled the success of the giveaway and was raised by the community and the Boulder Rotary Club, signaling strong local support for the program. "District Attorney Michael Dougherty said, “This was one of the best days ever. Our office vigorously prosecutes gun cases, fights for sensible reforms, and helps gun owners to secure their weapons. With the help of our incredible community partners, these gun safe giveaways allow us to respect one’s constitutional right to possess a firearm while enhancing the community’s ability to be safe from gun violence and mass shootings," Boulder County reported on the success and the sentiment behind the event.
