A Brooklyn man has been charged with concealing a human corpse after police found a body outside his Flatbush residence. NYPD officials reported that officers responded to a 911 call last Friday and discovered an unresponsive man with visible signs of trauma outside 557 East 21st Street. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Gothamist.
Two days later, 38-year-old Christopher Moss, who lives at the address in question, was arrested yesterday afternoon. Information about his legal representation was not immediately available. Authorities say the identity of the deceased man has not yet been released, and the medical examiner is working to determine the exact cause of death.
A neighbor discovered body parts, including a man’s head and torso, inside a trash bag at the Flatbush location last Friday. The remains were wrapped in plastic and left in a blue trash bin. A building superintendent saw a tenant, who is now linked to the deceased, disposing of multiple bags in the trash.
Danielle, a resident of the building, told ABC7NY, "I just see a lot of flies. I don't know what's going on. I just see a lot of flies. A lot of flies flying around. It's crazy." The odor was initially detected by a street repair crew, though residents say it had been lingering in the hallways for several days. One neighbor described the smell, saying, "As soon as that door opened that whiff would just smack you in the face. And we would have the door closed but like you'd be on the other side of the apartment from the entrance and you would still smell it. It definitely was the body."
Neighbors stated that the couple, now identified as roommates and partners, were often seen smoking outside daily. The investigation is ongoing as officials work to determine the events leading to this outcome. Meanwhile, charges against Moss remain pending as the case proceeds through the justice system.
