Residents of Brooklyn Park have the opportunity to make an environmental impact post-Halloween by participating in the annual Pumpkin Drop-Off event starting November 1 through November 10. The free service, aimed at composting and repurposing leftover pumpkins, will take place in the Central Park parking lot off Noble Avenue, as shared by the City of Brooklyn Park's announcement.
City officials are calling for adherence to recycling guidelines, stressing the importance of prepping materials correctly for collection. "Have material loose in your cart, never in bags," a statement from the City of Brooklyn Park advises. Moreover, residents are reminded to set out their recycling carts by 6:30 a.m. on the day of collection, ensuring they are positioned at least three feet away from any obstructions.
The designated drop-off for pumpkins will contribute to a cycle of sustainability, with the organic waste transformed into compost. "Pumpkins will be made into compost that will be used to make soil and landscapes healthy," remarks the bulletin from the City of Brooklyn Park. This eco-friendly initiative highlights the deeper commitment to reducing landfill waste and encouraging community participation in green practices.
To ensure the process runs smoothly and efficiently, officials request that all candles, candle wax, and decorations are removed from pumpkins prior to drop-off. These items can contaminate the composting process and are not suitable for organic recycling. The service is a convenient alternative for residents without access to a backyard compost bin or an organics recycling cart.
