In a move to curb the thrill of illegal automotive acrobatics, the California Highway Patrol’s Golden Gate Division made a significant stride in dismantling a sideshow event in Antioch. The sideshow, an underground event where cars perform stunts to a crowd of onlookers, was halted as law enforcement swooped in last Friday.
With a force that included multiple arrests and the impounding of 22 vehicles, authorities made clear their stance on the frowned-upon gatherings that have long been part of the Bay Area’s urban tapestry. The operation targeted two large-scale sideshows, drawing in more than 200 vehicles and 300 eager spectators. Despite the festive atmosphere such events typically promise, the aftermath saw one vehicle, in particular, getting seized, linked to what officers have described as one of the main participants involved in the street spectacles.
According to a social media post by CHP Golden Gate Division, this crackdown is part of a joint enforcement operation that addresses the risks accompanying sideshow activities. These risks include, but are not limited to, traffic disruptions, property damage, and potential injury or death resulting from the high-speed stunts performed in these unlawful gatherings.
