For those invested in the future tapestry of Carrboro, there's a noteworthy occasion beckoning your participation. As per reports from the Town of Carrboro, the Downtown Area Plan, a blueprint charting the course for the town's core, remains open for public scrutiny. Residents can voice their perspectives to the Town Council during a continued public hearing, scheduled for 6 p.m. Nov. 18, at Town Hall, located at 301 W. Main St.
The draft in question reflects a year's worth of community deliberations, distilled into a document that embodies the hopes for a downtown area characterized by vibrancy and inclusivity. Despite the broad engagement at over 30 events throughout the past year, the journey isn't concluded. The Town encourages locals to review the proposed plans for boosting affordable housing, nurturing businesses, amplifying the arts, and cultivating spaces for both greenery and social gatherings. As outlined in a statement obtained by the official Town of Carrboro website, the plan's ambitions rope in advances in racial equity and climate action, echoing the broader objectives of the Carrboro Connects Comprehensive Plan.
In the spirit of accessibility, the Downtown Area Plan awaits residents at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 1120 Hillsborough Road, on two separate occasions: Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 4 to 6 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 8, from noon to 2 p.m. Those unable to attend can swing by Town Hall on any business day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a face-to-face with planning staff, or they may opt for dialogue via phone at 919-918-7335 or email at [email protected].
Moving beyond individual interactions, the Town's outreach spreads to Homeowners' Associations (HOAs) across Carrboro. The goal is to ensure that a breadth of residents are acquainted with the plan, presented with the opportunity to seek clarity on details, and are aware about the ongoing public hearing slated for Nov. 18.
