Carrollton's own Edward Green has been recognized by the Building Officials Association of Texas (BOAT) as the Code Professional of the Year, a distinction that underscores his commitment to the construction standards and public safety within the community. This honor is no small feat; it is bestowed upon individuals who go above and beyond in their service regarding the construction and maintenance of buildings and structures—and even extends to their occupancy and overall welfare.
As the esteemed Plan Review Manager for the City of Carrollton Development Services, Green's leadership skills and expertise have not gone unnoticed by his colleagues—nor the professional community at large. "Ed consistently provides valuable leadership not only to his plan review team, but to the entire department, and brings great value to the City," Brett King, the Carrollton Development Services Director/Building Official, said, per the City of Carrollton. Green's keen understanding of his field, coupled with a proactive approach to new challenges, sets a high bar for his peers.
The criteria for nomination for this prestigious award are not limited by role; they include a variety of positions such as permit technicians, plans examiners, and building officials. Nominations come from a high level, commonly a director, mayor, or city manager, which gives additional weight to the recognition. Green's award was conferred during the BOAT Annual Conference held in Montgomery this past August—a gathering of professionals dedicated to building safety and regulation.
Beyond the accolade itself, Green has been hailed for his practical and sensible methodology when handling demanding situations. Engaging with customers and stakeholders, his approach is both informational and patient. "He is extremely knowledgeable in his field and very quickly researches any areas new to him," King elucidates his unique capability to distill complex building codes for various audiences, employing a seemingly innate common sense. It is this blend of talents that leads King to regard Green as "a rising star and a great example of the future of the building industry," as cited by the City of Carrollton.
