The City of Chanhassen is marking a major milestone with the opening of its new city hall and the start of upgrades to the Civic Campus. According to a social media post by Mayor Elise Ryan, the city will host an open house for residents on November 1 to celebrate the transition from the previous building, which served as city hall for more than 40 years.
The former facility has been demolished to make way for a redesigned Civic Campus expected to be completed by July. Plans include public amenities such as a playground, splash fountain, and skateboard park aimed at expanding recreation options for residents. The City Council also approved a preliminary levy of $16,473,000 for the upcoming fiscal year—a 7.2% increase from last year’s budget—as the city continues its development projects.
According to the city’s announcement, the median home value in Chanhassen is projected to rise to $501,600 in 2026 from $476,300 in 2025, resulting in an average annual property tax increase of about $78 for a median-valued home. The council is reviewing potential adjustments before finalizing the levy on December 15.
Mayor Ryan also noted progress on other projects, including the Chanhassen Bluffs Community Center, which is being evaluated for long-term sustainability in partnership with the Sports Facilities Companies. Additionally, work on the Avienda Development is advancing, with construction of new row homes and an apartment complex slated to begin this fall. Developers are also close to securing a deal with a grocery retailer for the site.
Meanwhile, residents have experienced disruptions due to ongoing fiber installations across the city. Mayor Ryan acknowledged the inconvenience and assured that full yard restorations will follow once the work is complete. Updates on the fiber expansion are available on the City of Chanhassen’s official website.
