A key hearing concerning the future of Charlotte County’s landscape has been rescheduled to December 9. Initially set for an earlier date, the hearing will focus on proposed adjustments to the Rural Settlement Area Overlay District (RSAOD) criteria. As per an announcement from Charlotte County, these modifications may allow for increased development within certain zones of the approximately 4,900-acre district.
Residents living near the RSAOD will find themselves notified of the new hearing date through postcards, while a sign with the rescheduled hearing information will be placed on the property, as required by the county's guidelines. The acreage stretches across a significant part of the East County area, bordered south of the Desoto County line and north of Palm Shores Boulevard.
The RSAOD project, in effect since June 15, 2011, serves multiple purposes. Its establishment aimed to enhance the visual appeal along U.S. 17, shield natural resources, and champion the restoration of critical wetlands and water flow ways. Simultaneously, guiding growth management and land use patterns has been a cornerstone aim of the district’s governance.
