A Charlotte resident, Kenneth Locklear, scratched his way to a hefty $1 million prize with a $30 investment in a lottery ticket. Locklear's stroke of luck was furnished by the MAX-A-MILLION ticket he procured from the Gate convenience store located on Lawyers Road in Stallings, as reported by QC News.
Upon his Monday visit to the lottery headquarters, Locklear was presented with the kind of decision that most can only fantasize to ever have to make: to either steadily receive his prize as a $50,000 annual annuity over 20 years or to take a $600,000 lump sum off the bat. Choosing the latter, after the government had their say via tax withholdings, Locklear walked away with a grand total of $430,508, according to a statement obtained by WSOCTV.
The MAX-A-MILLION game itself is no old-timer; having debuted in the month of March, it initially boasted 25 top prizes worth $1 million. If anyone is feeling lucky, it isn't too late; there are still 18 of these $1 million prizes up for grabs, and not to mention, seven $100,000 prizes that also haven't been claimed, as NCLottery.com details.
For those who might now be considering to somewhat irresponsibly spend their grocery money on a scratch-off, the N.C. Education Lottery extends a helping hand with its Play Smart™ program. The program seeks to educate potential players on the intricacies of lottery play, from understanding the odds to entering bonus drawings. More information about responsible gambling and lottery education can be found by visiting their Play Smart™ website, as was emphasized in QC News.
