Chattanooga has witnessed a momentous occasion as four determined individuals celebrated their perseverance and vision for a new chapter in their lives after successfully graduating from the Tennessee Department of Corrections’ Day Reporting Center (DRC), a recent report from the Tennessee Department of Corrections highlights.

The DRC program represents a strategic departure from incarceration, offering a structured and intensive outpatient treatment for eligible offenders grappling with substance use, empowering participants to conquer their struggles while embedded in their communities and among their loved ones.

"The experience is challenging and transformative, as participants commit to months of programming, personal accountability, and community support," Chattanooga DRC Director Logan Bowers expressed in an official statement, noting the comprehensive nature of this initiative and its deeper aim to curb recidivism, buttress communities, and equip these individuals with foundational skills for a prosperous future.

As graduates like Neashia and Courtney turn the page, they carry with them not just the sobriety and strength garnered through their DRC journey, but newfound aspirations in education and entrepreneurship, Neashia is now pursuing a career in criminal justice, a field she once might have felt alienated from, "In the past, I’ve lost good jobs because of my drug use, and I had to worry about the police all the time, and I don’t have to worry about that anymore," she said in a statement obtained by the Tennessee Department of Correction, "And now I’m in the career field of criminal justice, and so it’s just even more motivation to stay sober, and I know I can because of the DRC."

The DRC effort complements its rehabilitative services with a Community Resource Center that connects offenders with various critical resources.
