A routine traffic stop in Chino Hills escalated into a larger drug bust, resulting in three residents being arrested on various narcotics charges, according to a report filed by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department. The incident, which took place on October 16, saw deputies pull over a vehicle for alleged traffic violations at the intersection of Rolling Ridge Lane and Glen Ridge.
Occupants of the vehicle, Michael Aguilar and Tanya Camacho, were found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Subsequent investigations led deputies to a nearby residence on Laguna Court, where they discovered Camacho's children in the care of their grandmother, Mary Rodriguez, who had outstanding warrants for narcotics-related offenses. While Michael Aguilar was being arrested, he was found with methamphetamine and other items, perceived to be indicators of the sale of narcotics.
A search warrant of Rodriguez's residence uncovered additional methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Rodriguez, with a record of prior convictions, was arrested under Proposition 36, according to the Sheriff's Department statement. Specifically, she was charged with Health & Safety Code 11395(b)(1), which carries potential for enhanced sentencing under the provisions of the recently enacted proposition.
The arrest of Aguilar and Camacho at the traffic stop eventually led to their transport to the West Valley Detention Center. Aguilar faced charges for HS11378, while Camacho was booked on HS11377. Left in a nearby residence, the children of Camacho were found in the care of Rodriguez during the investigation, offering a poignant reminder of the intertwining of family and the pernicious grasp of substance misuse.
