A Clark County School District teacher has been arrested on charges of child abuse, according to the Clark County School District Police Department. The educator, identified as 52-year-old Tiersa Baughman of Doris Hancock Elementary School, was taken into custody this past Wednesday, as revealed in reports from News 3 LV.
The arrest stems from allegations that surfaced starting from October 1, leading to the investigation at the elementary school. As reported by News 3 LV, Baughman, who has been with the district since February 2004, upon her release will be assigned to home. This administrative measure adheres to the agreement with the district’s bargaining unit.
Despite the gravity of the charges, there is yet to be details on the specific nature of the alleged abuse. However, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department shared that due to a recent U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling, they are restrained from releasing booking photos, News 3 LV highlighted.
Baughman is currently facing these serious allegations during her tenure as an educator—a career with the district that began over two decades ago. According to a statement reported by Fox5 Vegas, "Police say she’s been employed by the district since February 2004." The exact conditions of her assignment to home were not made public, while under the cloud of these troubling circumstances.
The Clark County School District Police Department reaffirmed that Baughman will be home assigned following her arrest on charges related to child abuse. Booked into Clark County Detention Center, she will remain there until the formal proceedings take their course, a contention is made evident by a report from KTNV. "Baughman will be assigned to home upon her release," further stated the CCSD Police Department, as per their negotiation terms with the bargaining unit.
