Collierville held a series of events focused on fire safety awareness, specifically highlighting the risks associated with lithium-ion batteries. These events were part of Fire Prevention Week, a national initiative aimed at educating the public on fire prevention. Collierville Fire & Rescue organized a community-based program featuring their mascot, Sparky. Accompanied by firefighters and new recruits, Sparky appeared around town with an NFPA selfie frame to promote participation in the campaign.
The effort focused on delivering fire safety information and encouraging interaction between the fire department and the community. As part of the initiative, Collierville firefighters wore masks and invited residents to participate in a challenge to identify the individuals behind the masks. According to a social media post from Collierville Fire & Rescue, "Even our recruits jumped in on the action! They’re masked up, can you guess who’s behind those faces?"
Fire Prevention Week serves as a nationwide platform for fire departments to highlight actions that can reduce fire risks in the home. In Collierville, information was shared on topics such as the proper storage and handling of lithium-ion batteries and the importance of regular smoke alarm maintenance.
